Compartment syndrome is known to be a surgical emergency because the condition can lead to neurovascular bundle compression subsequently no nutrition to the compartment. Death of tissue ensues. If suspecting compartment syndrome, to save the limb simple steps can be taken. These include taking off all tight dressings or plaster if attached. Also elevation of the limb to the level of the heart is recommended to improve the blood supply. Further management is surgical decompression.
