Fissures of Santorini

Fissures of Santorini

Fissures of Santorini are two significant deficiencies in the cartilaginous part of the external auditory canal. These fissures are natural openings in the lateral aspect of the anterior cartilage of the canal. Fissures of Santorini are vertical fissures that allow infections and neoplastic processes to extend from superior mastoid and parotid glands into the external auditory canal and vice versa.
