What are the characteristic chromosomal rearrangements and the activated gene for subtypes of NHL?
Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma subtypes have characteristic chromosomal re-arrangements that are limited to that type only. For example follicular lymphoma has a translocation of chromosome 14, 18 with BCL-2 effected. Mantle cell lymphoma has translocation at 11, 14 and cyclin D1 effected. In Burkitt's lymphoma there is translocation of chromosome 8 to 14 and MYC oncogene is affected. In diffuse B cell lymphoma BCL-6 is affected. These disruptions produce distinct type of cancers.
