How is non-Hodgkin lymphoma staged?
Staging is a tool used to tell where the cancer is, what treatment can be given and what may be the progress. These stages include: stage I( one group of lymph node is effected above or below the diaphragm), stage II( two groups of lymph node effected on the same side of the body above or below the diaphragm), stage III (lymph nodes effected on both side of the body) and stage IV ( cancer cells present in organs and bone marrow).Staging may also contain alphabets ( A: absent B symptoms present, B: 1 or more B symptoms present like fever, night sweats, E: extra nodal lymphoma but localized and X:bulky disease. Early stage: localized, Stage 1 and 2 and effected lymph nodes close to each other. Advanced stage: widespread, stage 3 and 4 and lymph nodes groups involved are apart.
