Peripartum cardiomyopathy (PPCM) is a rare, life-threatening form of heart failure that weakens the heart muscle, causing it to enlarge and reducing its ability to pump blood (LVEF < 45%). It typically occurs in the last month of pregnancy or within five months postpartum. Symptoms include severe fatigue, shortness of breath, swollen legs/feet, and chest pain, which can be misdiagnosed as normal late-pregnancy discomfort.
