Hypovolemic shock is a life-threatening emergency from severe blood or fluid loss, preventing the heart from pumping enough oxygen-rich blood to the body, leading to rapid organ dysfunction and failure. It's caused by hemorrhage (trauma, internal bleeding) or severe dehydration (vomiting, diarrhea, burns) and presents with symptoms like rapid heart rate, low blood pressure, cool clammy skin, confusion, and decreased urine, requiring immediate IV fluids, transfusions, or surgery to replace volume and stop the cause.
