Nonvalvular Atrial Fibrillation (NVAF) is an irregular heart rhythm (atrial fibrillation) that happens when there are no significant heart valve problems, like mitral stenosis or mechanical heart valves. Instead, NVAF stems from other causes like high blood pressure, heart failure, sleep apnea, aging, or genetics, leading to chaotic electrical signals in the heart's upper chambers, increasing stroke risk, and requiring different blood thinners (like NOACs/DOACs) than valvular AF.
