Head and neck anatomy

The superficial fascia of the neck lies immediately deep to the skin (red dashed line) and envelops the platysma as well as the muscles of facial expression. It consists mainly of subcutaneous and connective tissue and contains superficial nerves and veins. DLDCF, Deep layer, deep cervical fascia; MLDCF, middle layer, deep cervical fascia; SCF, superficial cervical fascia; SLDCF, superficial layer, deep cervical fascia.
