(Cranial Nerves 1 (Olfactory) & 2 (Optic), Brainstem: Midbrain & Spinal Cord are not shown) The Pontomedullary junction is a great place to know as a landmark for some of the anatomical locations of the Cranial Nerves. It is the angle between the lower border of the pons and the superior border of the medulla. Notable Nerve originations! CEREBRUM *Cranial nerve 1: Olfactory *Cranial nerve 2: Optic MIDBRAIN *Cranial nerve 3: Oculomotor *Cranial nerve 4: Trochlear PONS *Cranial nerve 5: Trigeminal - lateral aspect of mid pons *Cranial nerve 6: Abducens – pontomedullary junction, close to the midline *Cranial nerve 7: Facial – cerebellopontine angle (not shown), the more lateral aspect of the pontomedullary junction. *Cranial nerve 8: Vestibulocochlear – laterally to the facial nerve.
