Tonsil anatomy

As we were rummaging around in the pharynx last week let's take a look at the tonsils. The term "tonsils" applies to a number of lymphoid masses in the pharynx, and when you have your tonsils removed this usually only applies to some of them. Your adenoids are also one of your tonsils. Where are they? What do they do?
