Before a surgery you are not supposed to eat about 8 hours ahead but when it is emergency surgery they can do it right away. How does that work?

😂 On the elective surgery, we(docs I mean) want everything’s best for no complication. But in the emergency conditions, we can’t wait to optimize everything for save a life or limb... If u get it, jump once😜

Cricoid pressure during intubation....also benefits from surgery must out weigh risk of aspiration😷☺

When your stomach is filled with food/water and they give you the muscle relaxant it also relaxes the muscles that keeps the food from flowing back to the oesophagus and you’re at risk of aspiration, which means food/fluid as well as the acid in your stomach may flow into you’re lungs and there can cause severe infection and damage. In the case of an emergency your life is at Risk anyway and you wouldn’t be taken to theatre if it could wait. We usually just outweigh the risks
