Mushroom Sign

Mushroom Sign

The mushroom sign, also known as the Kirklin sign, is a radiological finding observed during an upper gastrointestinal (UGI) series in cases of hypertrophic pyloric stenosis (HPS). It appears as an indentation on the base of the duodenal bulb caused by the thickened pyloric muscle, resembling a mushroom or an umbrella. This sign is a helpful indicator in diagnosing HPS, particularly when combined with other characteristic findings.
