There is penetration of epithelium-lined spaces into the gallbladder wall (RokitanskyAschoff sinus) in an area. There is subepithelial and subserosal fibrosis and hypertrophy of muscularis. Mononuclear inflammatory cell infiltrate is present in subepithelial and perimuscular layers.
