Lithiasis

Lithiasis

Sialolithiasis” is the medical term for salivary gland stones (calculi). These stones can cause pain and swelling of your salivary gland. Causes include dehydration, smoking and certain autoimmune diseases. Sialolithiasis treatments include massage, heat application and, sometimes, surgery. How do you get rid of lithiasis in the mouth? After giving the patient local or general anesthesia, the surgeon makes a small incision inside the mouth near the affected gland and inserts a slender tube called a sialoendoscope. The surgeon can use small instruments inserted through this tube to capture and remove the stone if possible.
