Cytomegalovirus can cause a variety of infections in an immunocompetent host. Common sites are: • Liver: transaminitis • Spleen: splenomegaly • CNS: encephalitis • Lung: severe community-acquired viral pneumonia • GI tract: colitis • Haematologic system: cytopenias • Multisystem: fever of unknown origin Uncommon sites include: • Adrenal glands • Salivary glands • Esophagus • Pancreas • Kidneys
