Immunocompetent hosts infected with primary CMV infection are usually asymptomatic or present with mild flu-like symptoms. The symptoms appear approximately 9-60 days after the primary infection. Enlarged lymph nodes and spleen might be seen thus CMV infection should be considered as a differential diagnosis of infections causing lymphadenopathy. Extreme lethargy may exist after laboratory levels have been normalized.
