Monitoring Patient’s Liver Enzyme Values A doctor may recommend • New blood tests compared with previous ones OR • New blood tests with gap of few weeks and months Along with tests, doctors ask some questions to know about patient’s lifestyle progress. They include • What medicines do you use? Did you use any over-the-counter medicines for self-medication recently? • Do you drink alcohol? If so, what is the frequency? • Have you had sex? If so, do you have multiple partners? • Have you transfused blood ever? • Are you inclined to injectable drug abuse? • Where do you work? Have you been exposed to blood products? • Is there someone in your family with inherited hemochromatosis, Wilson’s disease or alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency?
