Is it contagious. I am a school nurse. I had a student that got that. I thought it was chicken pox

It is contagious, yes.

I would presume so much like chicken pox, measles, and other virulent diseases.

I've just looked it up. Yes, this is contagious and more so in the first week but can be for up to days and weeks after infection whether symptoms are present or not.
