I took 40 mg Accutane daily for 7 months. I experienced: dry skin, dry eyes, styes, cracked / bleeding lips, minor bleeding of anus when passing stool, worsened vision in low-light, joint pain, fatigue, and mood swings. For the first 2 months of my course I noted an increase in acne, which then slowly decreased until all of my pimples were gone and no more appeared, after about 6 months. The side effects remained for ~3 weeks after I stopped taking Accutane, and 2 years later I have virtually no acne.

Accutane oral, or isotretinoin, belongs to retinoids, a derivative of Vitamin A. Accutane oral is used for the treatment of severe acne. This type of acne is called nodular acne. Moreover, it is also approved for treating other skin problems and some kinds of cancer. The side effects of Accutane oral include unclogged pores, more acne, dry and chapped lips, thinning of hair, mood and behavior changes, stomach ache, breathing problems, building up in blood, internal damage, severe mental health issues, pressure on brain, birth defects (absence of ears, microphthalmia, or absence of eyes, small or absent thymus gland, cleft palate, heart defects), dry and bleeding nose, and sensitivity towards sunlight. Accutane oral interacts with Vitamin A supplements, tetracyclines, mini pills which are micro-dosed progesterone preparations and do not contain estrogen, ethinyl estradiol, systemic cortecosteroids, and phenytoin. The use of Accutane oral with these drugs is restricted.
