Nasogastric tube or NG tube is a tube synthesized from plastic or silicon. It is inserted through nasal opening to access gastric cavity. The purpose of this tube insertion is to provide patient with nutrition. The indication of placing a nasogastric are: 1) malnourished or patients at risk of malnutrition 2) in patients with functional and accessible gastrointestinal tract that is patients cannot consume adequate amount to absorb nutrients. As the tube passes through nose and approaches gastric cavity, it can cause many complications. These may range from local trauma of nasal cavity, esophageal perforation, respiratory tree trauma or aspiration pneumonia.
