Primary biliary cholangitis is an autoimmune disease of liver which effects the bile ducts leading to bile in hepatic cells resulting in trauma. The condition presents as bone pains, joint pains, fatigue, itchy skin, dry eyes and mouth and pain abdomen. Diagnosis is done by blood tests, ultrasound and liver biopsy. Complications of the conditions include osteoporosis, portal hypertension, ascites, vitamin deficiency and increased risk of liver cancers. Risk factors of PBC are: middle aged (35-80), women, previous auto-immune disease. The ratio of developing the condition in men to women is 1:9.
