Medications for HPIV Infection There is no specific treatment for HPIV infection. However, Ribavarin is an antiviral medicine recommended to prevent worsening of condition. Ribavarin shows encouraging results in HPIV-3 infection in children, adults and immunocompromised individuals. Both aerosol and systemic therapy of ribavarin is used for the treatment of HPIV infection. It improves croup in HPIV i.e. airway inflammation and edema. Other medications include corticosteroids, epinephrine and antibacterial agents. Antibiotics are only employed when patients bacterial complications such as ostitis and sinusitis.
