Signs and Symptoms of Croup in HPIV • Barking cough • Coryza i.e. inflammation of nasal mucosa • Stridor i.e abnormal, high-pitched sound produced by partially obstructed airway • Fever • Retractions • Trachypnea i.e. rapid breathing • Irritability In pediatric cases, croup is worse at night. The severity of symptoms often wakes them up.
