What is the role of ELISA in the diagnosis of human parainfluenza virus (HPIV)?
If a person has HPIV infection, ELISA can be used to detect the presence of viral antigen to confirm the diagnosis. (The test is based on antigen-antibody reaction)
ELISA for HPIV Diagnosis Radioimmunoassay and fluoroimmunoassay are more specific and rapid than ELISA for diagnosis of HPIV. ELISA is 84% sensitive against HPIV. In this test, nucleocapsid proteins from yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae are employed as the source of viral antigens.
