What investigations are indicated if there is a suspicion of PSC?
Primary sclerosing cholangitis is a condition in which inflammation of bile duct occurs causing scar formation. This causes narrowing of the duct and leads to liver damage. The process is slow and repeats itself leading to liver failure, infections or tumor formation. It presents as fatigue, itching, pain abdomen, fever, chills and rigors, jaundice, hepatosplenomegaly and weight loss. People at risk of the condition include: age between 30-50, more predominant in men and people suffering from IBD. When suspecting the disease following investigations should be done: LFTs, Autoimmune profile, MRI of bile ducts, MRCP and ERCP with liver biopsy.
