How are human parainfluenza viruses (HPIVs) transmitted?
Transmission of Parainfluenza Virus (HPIV) HPIV transmits from an infected to healthy individual by direct touch and respiratory aerosols expelled from eyes, nose and mouth. HPIV survives on hard surfaces such as skin, cloths and other objects for more than 10 hours. Touching such surfaces and then contacting nose, eyes or mouth causes transmission of HPIV.
