Charley horse is known as muscle spasm in lay man language. It can effect any part of the body but is more comon in legs. Causes include: inadeqaute blood supply to the effected muscle, muscle injury, exercise in extreme temperature, over use, nerve compression, low potassium levels due to diuretics, mineral deposition or dehydration. The condition is usually transient and relieves in a few minutes. It presents as an scute pain and discomfort in a specific area leading to muscle soreness. Managment is mainly life style changes ( healthy food, good hydration, exercise and maintaining good posture), anit-inflamatory and ice packs.
