Virus and bacteria enter upper respiratory tract causing an infection. Most common URI-causing viruses are rhinovirus, influenza virus, adenovirus, enterovirus and respiratory synctial virus. An infected individual can transmit these viruses by expelling respiratory droplets when coughing, sneezing and even coughing.
