Treatment Protocol for Epiglottitis • Admit the patient in the nearest hospital. • Do not insert tongue depressors and other similar instruments as they may provoke airway spasm leading to respiratory compromise. • Use pulse oximetry and visual observation to monitor respiratory fatigue. • Administer oxygen according to pulse oximetry results. • There may be need of intubation therefore keep equipments and personnel ready. • Give IV antibiotics after collecting specimens for lab culture tests. • Administer IV fluid to correct volume deficit. • Avoid sedatives.
