Mention positive findings in a chest xray for lung abscess. What is the treatment plan?
On a plain radiograph lung abscess appears as a cavity containing a gas-fluid level which is round in shape and appears similar in both frontal and lateral projections. Additionally all margins are equally well seen although adjacent consolidation may make the assessment of this difficult. Treatment usually includes prolonged use of antibiotics and physiotherapy with postural drainage. Bronchoscopy may also be beneficial.
