Detection of HPIV Genomic Detection of HPIV • Northern hybridization or dot blood detect HPIV RNA by employing virus-specific DNA probes. • PCR is highly specific and sensitive detection test for diagnosis of HPIV. • Advanced medical technology has developed multiple reverse transcriptase PCR (RT-PCR) to detect HPIV-1, HPIV-2 and HPIV-3. • RT-PCR-EHA is 95-100% sensitive and 97-100% specific. This test detects all four types of HPIV, influenza A and B virus and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV). Serologic Diagnosis of HPIV Antibody-based serologic tests employed for diagnosis of HPIv are; • Hemagglutination inhibition • Radioimmunoassay • ELISA • Neutralization • Complement fixation • Western blotting
