Suppurative flexor tendon tenosynovitis is most commonly caused by Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus. Clinical features include rapid swelling leading to a painful red swollen finger and the pain exacerbates on extending the finger. If left untreated, adhesions between the tendon and its sheath lead to stiff, useless finger. Treatment options include incision & drainage, hand elevation, splintage and antibiotics.
