Caput Medusae

Caput Medusae

Caput medusae, also called a palm tree sign, refers to the appearance of a network of painless, swollen veins around the umbilicus. It is not a disease but a sign of an underlying condition. Caput medusae is usually related to liver disease, which eventually causes liver scarring, or cirrhosis. This scarring makes it even harder for blood to flow through the veins of the liver, leading to a backup of blood in your portal vein. The increased blood in the portal vein leads to portal hypertension. By: https://www.healthline.com/health/caput-medusae https://www.instagram.com/p/CQrruPnBXqR/?utm_medium=copy_link
