Candida is a commensal in oral flora, however, in certain conditions, it can grow to cause thrush. It present with white lesions in the mouth that cannot be scraped off. Other symptoms and signs are dysphagia, odynophagia, and erythema. Oral ulcers may be present. Oral candidiasis is managed by nystatin or amphotericin B suspensions or lozenges. In the case of immunocompromised and severely debilitated patients, oral fluconazole is imperative for treatment.
