Neuropathic pain results from malfunctioning within the nervous system. Pain can emerge from any part of the body. It can involve peripheral nerves, the spine or the brain. The root cause for pain may be due to damaged nerve fibers. The pain may affect body movement or generally interfere with daily activities. In most cases diabetes is the leading cause to neuropathic pain but neuropathic pain can result from many other diseases as well. The most common causes include: diabetes, alcoholism, HIV or AIDS, Parkinson’s disease, shingles, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, inflammation in spinal nerve and vitamin deficiency. Diagnosis is made by clinical examination mainly. Treatment: is mainly cause related vitamin replacement, better blood sugar control. Pregablins and gabapentin’s have been known to be very effective.
