Efficacy of ESIs for LBP The efficacy of ESIs for LBP is an on-going debate. It still stands as controversial. According to some studies, ESIs are quite effective for LBP whereas some other studies contradict the supporting studies. However, the studies which do not support the use of ESIs for LBP didn’t use radiographic contract and fluoroscopy. Both these factors are important to conclude the efficacy of ESIs. According to several studies, in 30% of the cases mistakes are likely to occur even by expert clinicians when radiographic contrast and fluoroscopy are not employed while injecting ESIs. Moreover, such studies didn’t value accurate placement of ESI at the injection site and level of pathology.
