Cellulitis

Cellulitis

It is a commonly occurring skin infection caused by Streptococcus or Staphylococcus. Epidermis is a protective barrier that serves to prevent the entry of bacteria but when epidermis gets damaged, it can allow bacteria to enter into the deep skin layers. Initial symptoms are redness, painful rash, swelling and warmth. Treatment for this condition is antibiotic therapy. Keeping the affected area raised on something like a pillow can help in reduction of swelling.
