Varicocele is the dilation of veins forming the Pampiniform plexus around the testes and spermatic cord. Their dilation leads to the characteristic bag of worms appearance of the scrotum. Coil embolization is a technique employed by interventional radiologists to shrink the veins. A catheter is inserted via femoral vein and advanced along the IVC until it travels down the gonadal vein. Thereafter, the coil is introduced at the desired site to deflect the blood away from the plexus. This ultimately leads to shrinkage of the veins.
