Crohn’s disease

Crohn’s disease is a type of inflammatory bowel disease, which can be both painful and debilitating, and sometimes may lead to life-threatening complications. It most commonly occurs in the small intestine and the colon, but can affect any part of your gastrointestinal (GI) tract, from your mouth to your anus. Symptoms of Crohn's disease can range from mild to severe.Most common are: Diarrhea Fever Fatigue Abdominal pain and cramping Blood in your stool Mouth sores Reduced appetite and weight loss Pain or drainage near or around the anus People with severe Crohn's disease may also experience inflammation of skin, eyes liver or bile ducts, kidney stones,Iron deficiency anemia and delayed growth or sexual development in children. The exact cause of Crohn's disease is still unknown. Previously, diet and stress were suspected, but now they are considered as aggravating agents and not as cause.Several factors, such as heredity and a malfunctioning immune system, likely play a role in its development. The complications include: Bowel obstruction, Ulcers, Fistulas, Anal fissure, Malnutrition, Colon cancer, Medication risks, Blood clots.  Several types of tests are used to make a firm diagnosis which include: Blood tests,stool tests,colonoscopy,imaging tests like CT scans and MRI and a biopsy of the gut. A treatment  for Crohn’s disease is currently unavailable, but the disease can be well-managed. A variety of medications exist that can lessen the severity and frequency of your symptoms. I have Crohn's disease, and I had the first symptom at the age of 4. it was interesting to know what the colon was like during times of inflammation.
