CAD or coronary artery disease is a chronic condition in which there is atherosclerosis of the coronary arteries. It may, however, culminate in acute coronary syndrome which includes myocardial infarction, angina or sudden cardiac death. This occurs when there is an acute plaque change in a diseased artery. e.g there may be rupture of the chronic plaque or hemorrhage into it which then precipitates ACS.
