The triangle of auscultation is a small triangular gap in the musculature. It is formed by the superior horizontal border of latissimus dorsi, medial border of the scapula and inferolateral border of trapezius. When the scapulae are drawn anteriorly and the trunk is flexed, the triangle enlarges and parts of 6th and 7th ribs and 6th intercostal spaces are subcutaneous. This triangle of auscultation allows better examination of the posterior segments of lungs with a stethoscope. Image via: https://images.app.goo.gl/EP7G4ke6GAzA43ri6
