Referred to as the Popeye sign in orthopaedics, this condition is unrelated to eating spinach! The deformity occurs due to rupture of the biceps tendon, a major flexor muscle in the upper limb. It may either result due to inflammation of the tendon or forceful flexion of the arm, as in weight lifters while working against excessive resistance.
