đTHE PERITONEUM The Peritoneum is a thin serous membrane that lines the wall of the abdominal cavity and invests the viscera organs. Note: Deep to The extraperitoneal fascia(a fascia covering the peritoneum), is the peritoneum which is a membrane lining the abdominal cavity and investing the viscera, More superficial to the extraperitoneal fascia is the Transversalis fascia. đParts of the Peritoneum -Parietal Part -Visceral Part âșParietal part; is the part of the peritoneum that lines the walls of the Abdominal cavity. âșVisceral Part; is the part of the peritoneum that invests the abdominal organs âșThe cavity between the Parietal and visceral part is the peritoneal cavity which is filled with a fluid called peritoneal fluid that allows free movement of both part on each other. âșOrgans that are found between the parietal part and extraperitoneal fascia are called Retroperitoneal organs and they include kidneys, ureters, suprarenal glands, ascending and descending colon etc. âșOrgans that are invested by the visceral part are called intraperitoneal organs e.g. Stomach, liver, pancreas, gall bladder etc âșThe Peritoneal cavity is divided into two parts/sacs --The Greater sac; which begins superiorly from the diaphragm and end in the pelvic cavity inferiorly. --The Lesser sac or the Omental Bursa; which is found at the posterior surface of the stomach and liver. It continues as the greater sac at the omental foramen or epiploic foramen. âșBoundaries of the Omental foramen. --Anteriorly by the hepatic vein, hepatic artery proper and bile duct --Posteriorly by the inferior Vena Cava --Superiorly by the caudate lobe of the liver --Inferiorly by the first part of the Duodenum đŹKnowledge is not power, it's just the essential of power.
