Mastectomy means the surgical removal of the breast, either completely or partially. This is the standard treatment for breast cancer. There are many subtypes to the procedure such as radical and partial mastectomies, lumpectomy (breast-conserving surgery), and quadrantectomy. The decision regarding to which procedure should be taken is depending on the number of lesions and their aggressiveness, the breast size, and availability of radiation and other therapies. Newer mastectomy techniques can preserve breast skin and allow for a more natural breast appearance following the procedure. This is known as skin-sparing mastectomy.Photo credit : @nazandedeogluu
