Had a patient today. They seem to have lost their sense of taste, but can smell fine. They are 69,female and display no other worrying symptoms. Ct of brain was unremarkable. Any suggestions as to give reason why this lady can’t taste? I’m clueless.

This can depend on the site of lose sensation if it was on anterior two third of the tongue this indicates chorda tympani damage which is branch of facial nerve in this situation you should check the hearing of patient to assure that lasion only on this branch or involving another structure If lose of sensation on posterior one third this may be due lesions in the glossopharyngeal nerve Before we check all these a proper history is very useful may be due to drug or some hot drinks that lead to lose of sense I hope i make sense on this explanation 😎

Her taste buds will not be working. She must see a homeopathic doctor.
