I am not a physician or a med student, but a CMA for 10 years with two adult kids. It sounds more like something is irritating your airway and your lungs-it doesn’t seem like a virus or infection sine you’re reporting white sputum . Since this is a new problem-it can’t be COPD since, as it was mentioned, it’s a disease that is chronic, meaning it would need to be an ongoing issue affecting many aspects of your daily life, including breathing, exercise along with impacting your vital signs. Since your soliciting advice, that’s all this is, is advice and not a professional opinion. Also, treating a patient is far more complicated than reading a few sentences on a message board. It involves getting historical information about your symptoms, learning about your daily activities, lifestyle, etc. It involves measuring your vital signs, listening to your heart and lungs, performing tests-all necessary to ensure that the proper diagnosis is delivered and the appropriate treatment initiated. For your health and safety, you should go see your doctor. If you don’t have one, establish with one. My opinion-This may be related to your bodies response to an allergen and further testing to rule out allergies, check your lung functions, and check your vital signs, etc would be the best way for you to determine what the cause is. Secondly, make sure that you’re eating healthy foods, with little or no chemicals/preservative, make sure you’re drinking plenty of water, getting plenty of sleep, getting regular cardiovascular exercise(as long as you tolerate it, and it doesn’t cause any breathing or physical issues). you also need to eliminate your exposure to any kind of irritants (smoke, vape, e-cigs, fumes, and etc). Lastly, and this would be the quickest way to confirm the diagnosis, try the medication. If it resolves your symptoms completely then it’s likely that you were correctly diagnosed. Good luck!

First up you should always be wary of advice given on the internet because you don’t know what people’s actual qualifications are. I am a second year med student and this would be my take. COPD is CHRONIC obstructive pulmonary disease. It develops over a long time course and usually occurs in people who quite a bit older than you. Secondly your main complaint seems to be irritation of the throat and not shortness of breath. COPD is normally associated with significant SOB. GERD fits in more with the picture as advised by your doctors. It accounts for the throat irritation and GERD can lead to cough/lung symptoms due to aspiration. Lastly, if you have concerns I would address them with your doctor and not some random people on the interwebs. There are no silly questions to ask your doctor when it comes to your health, which includes mental well-being and your concerns.

Asthma? Allergies? Acid reflux? It could be a mix of these things

Asthma my guess smoking and dust can be triggers.
