Lobotomy or Prefrontal Leukotomy

According to a medical historian, Dr. Barron Lerner, Lobotomy is a type of surgical procedure that purposely damage brain tissue in order to treat mental illness. It was used as a radical therapeutic measure to help grossly disturbed patients with schizophrenia, manic depression and mania (bipolar disorder), and other mental illnesses.

Indeed! The lobotomy was first performed on humans in the 1890s, but it stopped during mid-late 1950's for several reasons or replaced with chemical lobotomy. The development of medicine found phenothiazine-based neuroleptic (anti-psychotic) drugs and it is much more acceptable nowadays.
