I'm not in the medical field yet, but I seriously aspire to be a surgeon. I've taken a liking in Cardiothoracics, Neurology, and Trauma. My goal - after graduating high school in 2020 of course, is to get in to UCLA, or another Ivy League. Besides the crazy GPA, what else should I do to up my game? My friends and family are no help, and they all think I'm crazy for studying over vacation and all. I just want to be able to become a doctor.
Hey! I'm in the same situation! One thing I did to get an idea was to see the program of universities in Argentina, since you can find it online. There you can find all the subjects and which you will have in each year. So I downloaded some of the PDF's of the recommended books and started to read to get an idea. I'm currently reinforcing all of the skills related to medicine, starting from some math to chemestry and biology. I bought a book on anatomy which I enjoy. I recommend you do that, get a sense of the subjects and start studying those that catch your attention. As others have said here, stating extracurricular programs is I good idea, however I am not aware of how to find them in Argentina, but search for them in your country! For surgery, there's this app that I use where you can learn about +100 procedures through interactive simulations and real videos, called TouchSurgery, it is in Play Store.
I’m a junior in high school. You could enroll in summer programs. I’m doing a medical program in summer of 2019. It would help.
Do some summer programs and also try and see if you can find a doctor to shadow. Getting to see what its like can be really helpful and if you pay attention and work hard, they may help give you recommendations.
I’m 15 and I want to become a general Surgeon and my parents think I’m stupid and weird for studying over breaks and summer too. But I really take a passion in the medical field and I love to help others to the best of my ability. I can’t stand to see others hurting if I can help. So although I’m not able to help out yet I’m trying to make it😁. Don’t give up hope if you aspire to do this❤️.
Hey! Il in the same situation. I’m from Belgium in Europe and I want to study in the US but a lot of ppl told me that it was very difficult for foreigners tu study medicine in the US. IDK what to do. If you could give me some advice my instagram is itssdalia_.
Hey! I’m in the same situation! I want to become a cardiac surgeon! I’m from Romania. 😍
Hey I’m in the same place! I’m still in high school and I’m going to be a neurosurgeon. I’m a senior and I’ve been incredibly lucky to participate in multiple programs in the medical field shadowing doctors and nurses in the main hospital in my town. I actually get to spend the first 3 hours of my school day shadowing in different rotations (much like a clinical rotation in med school). It is an amazing the things that I’ve learned about the medical field through this and other programs. I would highly recommend finding any and all available programs for shadowing for high school students. It will give you a massive leg up when you get into further education. I hope everything goes well for you. Stay determined, you will go far!
