Brain and spinal cord with its coverings (meninges) still intact, and viewed posteriorly.

Surrounding the brain and the spinal cord are three special coverings called the meninges. Which are published as follows along with their functions; 1) Dura matter: The outer layer of the meninges is called the dura mater or simply the dura. The dura is tough and thick and it can restrict the movement of the brain within the skull. This protects the brain from movements that may stretch and break brain blood vessels. 2) Arachnoid matter: The middle layer of the meninges is called the arachnoid, which has a spider web like appearance and it’s sub-Arachnoid space receives the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) which is produced by the Choroid plexuses of the ventricular system of the brain. 3) Pia matter: The inner layer, the one closest to the brain, is called the pia mater or pia. The Pia mater, the CSF and other layers of the meninges work together as a protection & supportive device for the brain, with the CSF often referred to as the fourth layer of the meninges. An easy way to remember the order of the meninges is : DAP (Dura,Arachnoid,Pia). Last updated: sept 3, 2018. 📷•Medicogram•
