Abdominal Aorta & it’s pathways!

Check out the Abdominal Aorta and familiarize yourself with it's branches! Insta @rev.med. Draw, draw, draw... you'll never forget it!⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Abdominal Aorta⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ * Importantly it supplies all of the abdominal organs, the undersurface of the diaphragm and parts of the abdominal wall.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ * Begins at T12 and ends at L4, then it divides into right and left common iliac arteries.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ * We see it entering the abdominal cavity through the aortic opening of the diaphragm, which is located beneath the median arcuate ligament between the crura of the diaphragm at T12.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ * Its partners in the aortic opening include the azygos vein and the thoracic duct.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ * Found on the posterior abdominal wall in the retroperitoneal space of the abdomen.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ * It descends on the left of the inferior vena cava (IVC). In dissection you will see that it is slightly to the left of the midline, and its because of the big ole IVC next to it. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ * Also found parallel and to the right side of the aorta is the cisterna chyli, the beginning of the azygos vein, and the para-aortic lymph nodes.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ * Running on its left side is the left sympathetic ⁣⁣ trunk and the para-aortic lymph nodes.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ * Directly infront of the Aorta you will find the stomach, duodenum and the pancreas (in the diagram its shown just to illustrate the pathways)⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ * Crossing anteriorly are our friends the splenic and left renal vein.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ These are just quick shotgun points, much more to cover later.
